After many years of working in youth ministry, our pastor, Dave Johnson and his family felt burdened and called to reach people of all ages with the gospel of Jesus.
In the fall of 2009, a small group of individuas began meeting on Sunday nights in a local living room for a time of worship, study and prayer. It was a sweet time in our church's history and one we hold dearly. God confirmed many things during this season and it quickly became clear that we were called to plant a brand new church in the San Mateo area.
In October of 2010, Hope Church of San Mateo began meeting at Sunnybrae Elementary School.
We exist to proclaim the gospel to all with a life of love and a heart of service.
We as Hope Church believe the gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. It is our conviction that this gospel of Jesus transcends all culture, race, and creed, and it is our desire that the people of San Mateo come face to face with the reality that God sent his Son to save sinners.
We recognize that the Lord has given us this ministry as a gift of grace. We understand full well, that our lives are the tangible evidence of the transforming power of the gospel. Our words mean nothing if our lives do not reflect what we proclaim. Our lives should be an exclamation mark to what we preach, never a question mark.
"For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."
